How can I print Nginx web server version from the Linux terminal?
In order to find out Nginx version, you need to pass the -v or -V options to the nginx binary:
Example:
nginx -v
Output:
[[email protected]:~]nginx -v nginx version: nginx/1.11.7
The -v option passed to Nginx shows only the nginx version number, but we can get more details from using -V, which adds more verbose information to the output:
nginx -V
The -V option shows nginx version, compiler version and configure parameters, as you see below:

It’s easy to find out the differences between nginx -v and nginx -V commands, the first just print nginx version number, while the last one also includes the gcc version, the operating system platform, the openssl library version, and the whole configure parameters used to compile the Nginx web server.
